7Study Group Name: Environmental Study Group

The SPE Environmental Study Group provides a forum for exchange of technical and management information designed to better equip both consultants and company personnel to provide environmental services for the oil & gas industry. The 1 1/2 hour, luncheon meetings cover a wide range of topics from air compliance to litigation to soil and groundwater remediation. Topics are designed to cover new technologies and emerging issues such as revised regulations or enforcement procedures as well as basic environmental principals used in day to day compliance.

In addition to the noon meetings, the Environmental Study Group has been one of the sponsors for the annual Permian Basin Environmental and Regulatory Seminar hosted by Midland College's Petroleum Professional Development Center. The Study Group also encourages API and state agencies to provide professionals in the Permian Basin technology transfer training on critical topics such as air permitting and, soil and groundwater remediation.


6Study Group Name: Computer Users Study Group

The SPE Computer User’s Group (CUG) is dedicated to keeping the Permian Basin SPE section informed and up-to-date on computer related topics including the Internet, the latest industry software tools, and updates in computer hardware.  Meetings are specifically focused on how these evolving topics affect the petroleum industry.  Please join us and stay current with this rapidly changing facet of our industry.

The purpose of the SPE Computer Users Group is to:

  • Provide concise and timely study-group meetings dealing with innovative computer technology in our industry;
  • Make the internet, world-wide web, bulletin boards, and all other forms of computer communication easy to understand and readily available to all SPE members; and
  • Take all fear out of computing through training and short-courses.

5Study Group Name: Reservoir Study Groups

The Reservoir Study Group (RSG) is the largest of the study groups in the SPE Permian Basin section and meets on the 2nd or 3rd  Thursday of the month . The cost for attending the luncheon meeting is $15. The RSG provides a forum for reservoir engineers and geoscientists, interested in any aspects of reservoir characterization, development and management, to gather and share ideas relevant to oil and gas activities in the Permian Basin . The function of the RSG is to promote continuing education, encourage networking and initiate new and established topics of interest to the group participants. The program for 2007-2008 will focus on relevant reservoir topics of interest to technical personnel working in the region for majors, independents, service companies, as well as, in academics. The RSG is looking forward to a successful year and hopes to broaden the participation of professionals working in the Permian Basin .


4Study Group Name: Production Operations Study Group

The Production Operations Study Group has just been 're-organized' for the 2005-2006 period.  The Group will hold meetings the second Wednesday of each month at 11:30, September  through May.  Topics will include artificial lift, completion methods, surface facilities, well stimulation design and many others.  Notice of the meetings can be found in the monthly Pipeline newsletter and the Midland Reporter Telegram.  Lunch is served prior to the speaker or panel discussion.  The cost for the meeting is $15.  We welcome all and encourage participation, as well as suggestions for future topics and speakers.
