November 23st: SPE YP Section Meeting Speaker: Mr. Scott. C. Wehner (Regional Manager) Whiting Oil and Gas Corporation.
Topic: “A Review of the Historical Production Performance of the Postle Field; Challenges and Successes of Implementing a CO2 Flood”. ABSTRACT:
The Postle Field, discovered in 1958 is now considered a mature field. However, it has shown new life in recent years following a number of optimizations, focused reservoir management, and expansion of the miscible CO2 flood. As a result, the field is now producing at rates last seen in 1976 – back when the “leading scientists” then thought greenhouse gases (ie CO2) were going to cause global cooling! The Postle Field is a world-class example of a Sandstone CO2 application. Mr. Wehner will provide the generic information necessary for the audience to understand the reservoir character, as well a historical perspective of it’s development. He will share insight to practices associated with the recent efforts by Whiting Oil & Gas. The author will slant discussion toward the Young Professional group.
